Charts for real

Today I picked up charts graciously being loaned to us by Sue Dandridge. Sue and Robin Clark rowed the inside passage five years ago in a double rowboat, taking the reverse of the trip we plan.

Here I have the charts unfurled on the living room floor, using my secret training tools to weight down the corners. They should be full of good karma, having successfully guided the navigation of two prior journeys.

I didn’t think I’d find the charts so mesmerizing, especially as I’ve spent time on Google Maps, charting applications, and smaller book-sized charts, but having big table-size maps to wander in is strangely compelling.
